Clare Mahoney

Clare is a ceramic artist with a fascination for the natural world. Working predominantly with surface, she breaks up 2D space by abstracting natural forms and fauna to produce images that strive to capture a twisted tendril or fragile leaf. The pebbles are handmade using the process of press mould porcelain. Casts are made from found objects and pebbles. Their small size is based around the physicality of the hand. She uses printmaking techniques to illustrate the designs, creating a feeling of layers and elements when collaged together. After completing undergraduate studies at The Glasgow School of Art, Clare developed her knowledge and specialism, completing an MA at Howard Gardens in Cardiff. She studied at the Baltimore Institute in Maryland and worked with potters in Sonoma, California. Clare now lives and works in Frome, Somerset and is a member of The Devon Guild of Craftsmen.
